Nearby is my general with a decent stack. Then I reached turn +/- 60 and there's this full Sicily Stack (whom I'm at war with) on my lands. I can't remember what I did, but it seemed to stop crashing there and my game continued on. This was when Portugal moved an army into the fog of war. Finished a Short English Campaign before jumping into another English Campaign, this time a Long one.Īt some point during the game (round about 50 turns I think) the game crashed with the R6025 Pure Virtual Function error. I've recently started playing MTW2 again after buying it this weekend. If you do, keep it shored up with a good garrison, Genoa doesn't take kindly to you robbing their former capital away from them. This is for the unmodded Vanilla campaign game (Win 10, 64-bit): Hard starts off normally challenging, but it quickly becomes too easy once you get into the midgame.īIG HINT: I know Milan is a tempting target early game, but don't wear yourself out taking it. Give VH another chance, as it remains challenging throughout the campaign. The early game is ALWAYS the hardest part. Let them strike first, they will be marked as the aggressive party, which harms their reputationīeating VH requires a lot of knowledge of how the ingame politics works, mainly keeping yourself from being overwhelmed by mass enemies. Sicily and Genoa (and probably the HRE) WILL attack you within the first 20 turns. If they're fighting with the Romans, they won't divert their full attention to you. If your campaign will put you into conflict with the Byzantines at some point, ally with their neighbors, such as the Seljooks, Crusader States, Cumans, Khwarezemian Empire, etc. In vanilla Med2, the Byzantines were wimps, but in SS they're the most dangerous faction in the game. Byzantines are naturally inclined to attack Venice. Don't rely on the Hungarians as Venice, their AI is geared to hate you. Hungary is naturally inclined to attack Venice. If you must go to war with someone, try to keep the war on one side of your kingdom. Look at the other faction locations, ally yourself with the ones who are geographically out of the way so they have no reason to attack you, but will have reasons to attack their neighbors. Fighting everyone right away is a good way to get a crusade on your doorstep. Sometimes it's you, sometimes someone else (I'm looking at you, HRE). Everyone allies with the Pope, then when the Catholic nations go at it, someone is naturally going to get shafted. Ally with the Papal States, but don't expect it to hold. Everybody hates rebels, conquering them will give you a little reputation with everyone only hit the rebel settlements, hit them hard and fast. What is Venice's objectives? Kill the other Italian states? Regardless, let me give you some tips on how to better situate yourself early game: I haven't played as Venice on SS yet, but I can tell you you're gonna be in for a mosh pit of combat, being surrounded by five factions within walking distance of your capital. Battle difficulty is pretty self evident, but campaign difficulty is a little more obtuse, especially on SS where the AI has been tinkered with.Ĭampaign VH, the enemy is naturally more warlike, and is more organized with their military efforts that is, they will come at you with a full stack instead of some pisspiddin spear militia. Very hard what? Campaign? Battle? There's two separate difficulties.
